Ortho Options offers women a full-range of easy-to-use contraceptive product forms that are highly effective, safe, and non-hormonal. Ortho Options Gynol II Contraceptive Jelly is clear, unscented, water-soluble, and greaseless. It is mildly lubricating, non-staining and it contains Nonoxynol-9, which provides effective protection when used with a diaphragm. It is designed specifically for use with a diaphragm, since a diaphragm alone is not effective protection against pregnancy. The diaphragm and Ortho Options Gynol II Contraceptive Jelly are effective up to six hours. An additional application is necessary if repeated intercourse takes place or if intercourse occurs more than six hours after insertion. For best protection against pregnancy, follow the enclosed instruction circular exactly.

I was very happy with it, April 13, 2007

I cannot use birth control because they cause me to form blood clots. I used this product for a year and a half in conjunction with a diaphram and it worked excellent. (No pregnancy yet!!) However, you do need to be careful–if I do not use the restroom immediately after intercourse,I always get a urinary tract infection…and I’m not sure if its from this product, the diaphram, a combination of the two or just plan bad luck–but I had never got them before. (Hopefully this is not too much information, but I think you should know!)

I’ve been using this with a diaphragm for the past seven months. It’s easy, and so far, no babies. :)

As mentioned by the previous reviewer, nonoxynyl-9 containing products cause extremely unpleasant reactions in quite a few people. However, the majority of people do not experience such reactions, especially with less-frequent use.

As part of the majority that does not experience n-9 reactions, I am very happy with the protection against pregnancy this product offers me in conjunction with a diaphragm.
